Why was the Senator Finch character a Democrat?

If I remember correctly the Holly Hunter character of US Senator Finch was a Democrat from Kentucky. In real life both Kentucky US Senators are Republican. Now I understand this is fiction but Democrat US Senator Pat Leahy has appeared as himself in a few Batman films.I don’t understand why they couldn’t make Senator Finch a Republican unless Hollywood is biased against right wingers. We know that can’t be so.

That’s just my two cents.

Because she’s an old woman on her period.

Well yeah, recently republican has been a very dirty word, to be fair the name has been tainted by certain people in the past few years. And Hollywood leaning towards the left is pretty well known.

I don’t see Holly Hunter as a Republican. I think Snyder made the right call for once.

Snyder’s politics veer sharply to the right so the idea of killing a female Democrat and planting a pint of piss on her desk when Hilary Clinton was running for the nomination was probably just too much fun for him to pass up.

You may have a point. But despite her bad judgment in trusting Lex, isn’t Senator Finch meant to be a sympathetic character?

When did she ever trust Lex? She was shown to be skeptical of Lex’s actions from the beginning. That’s why she refused to allow him to export the kryptonite.

I seriously doubt that the scene with the jar of urine was meant to be comical. Finch’s death wasn’t exactly presented as a good thing either, since the bombing of the Senate was what led to Superman being going into exile.

The movie was filmed at the beginning and in the middle of Barack Obama’s second term (2013 and 2014). At the time, the premier race in the battle for the Senate was the race between Senator Mitch McConnell and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. Grimes just happens to share a number of characteristics with Hunter’s character. Also, Affleck contributed to Grimes’ campaign.

Thus, Hollywood was engaging in wish fulfillment ahead of McConnell’s flattening Grimes 56-41 in November 2014.
